Upcoming Workshop: Pruning for Fruit Production and All About Tools

Join us here at the Extension office in Duncan, January 20th, 10:00am till 3:00pm, for our class on pruning fruit trees, vines and shrubs for a reliable harvest. See attached flyer.

We’ll begin with a session on pruning tools and the importance of proper tool selection, which has a bearing on clean cuts and plant health. You are encouraged to bring your own tools with you to learn sharpening, adjustment and maintenance.

We will then begin with the different types of fruit trees, where and how they bear fruit and the importance of knowing how to prune the different types for sustainable fruit production.

Pruning will commence with the younger trees growing here in the demonstration gardens at the Cooperative Extension office. This will bring us up to lunchtime.

After lunch, we’ll move to another location nearby to continue with some older, larger trees and some types not growing in the demonstration gardens.

Last, but not least, we will discuss fertilizer, timing and application, as well as dormant spray and application.

The cost for this class is $15.00 to the public, or is included in tuition for the Greenlee County Master gardener program.

Be sure you dress to be outdoors and do pack a lunch, as the break will be short and fast food in Duncan isn’t.
