Safford Police Department Adds Bike Patrol for Community Events

SAFFORD, AZ — The Safford Police Department has recently introduced bicycles to its equipment fleet to enhance officer visibility and accessibility during community events—particularly those held along historic Main Street and in the City’s developing park spaces.

While there is not yet a dedicated bike patrol unit, the department has made bicycles available for any officer to utilize during public gatherings and special events. The bikes, purchased from Pedego McDowell Mountain, are intended to support the department’s ongoing efforts to remain engaged and approachable in public settings.

“We don’t have specific officers assigned to the bikes at this time,” said Safford Police Chief Avila, “but any officer who wishes to use them for event support is welcome to do so.”

The department is currently in the process of developing formal guidelines for bike patrol use, including potential training requirements and deployment protocols.

Residents can expect to see officers on bikes during the upcoming Cruzin’ Main Street event on May 17th. The presence of bike patrol officers aims to foster positive community interactions while enhancing safety and responsiveness throughout the event.
