WILD HORSE HAVEN RESCUE TO HOST SPECIAL READING OF “THE GIRL WHO LOVED WILD HORSES”

SAFFORD, Ariz. — Wild Horse Haven Rescue and New Leash on Life will host a special community reading of the children’s book “The Girl Who Loved Wild Horses” by Paul Goble on Saturday, May 23, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. as part of the organizations’ Summer 2026 Wild Horse Camp programming.

The free event will take place at the Wild Horse Education Center south of Safford and is designed to introduce children and families to themes of compassion, nature and the bond between humans and horses.

According to organizers, the story follows a gentle young Indigenous girl with a special gift for caring for the horses belonging to her tribe. After a wild storm, the horses run away with the girl on one of their backs, eventually leading her to decide whether she wishes to live with the wild horses forever.

Organizers said the reading is intended to provide an engaging educational experience connected to the rescue’s broader efforts to promote wild horse awareness and education in the community.

The event will be held south on Powerline Road from U.S. Highway 191. Attendees are instructed to continue to the end of the road, turn left on Drageda Drive, proceed to the end and enter through the gate on the right while following posted signs.

Wild Horse Haven Rescue operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
