DUNCAN, Ariz. (July 11, 2026) — The Greenlee County Cooperative Extension Office, in partnership with the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension, AmeriCorps, and the Master Gardener Program, is hosting a Backyard Greenhouse Workshop designed for gardeners, homesteaders, and anyone interested in year-round food production. The hands-on educational workshop will take place on Saturday, July 11, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Greenlee County Cooperative Extension Office, located at 1684 Fairgrounds Road, Duncan, Arizona 85534.

Participants will learn the fundamentals of planning, designing, and constructing a backyard greenhouse. The workshop will cover topics such as climate control and water management, greenhouse orientation and shade cloth use, season extension techniques, plant propagation, and the design and function of walipini (underground) greenhouses. The event includes classroom instruction, a greenhouse tour, and take-home educational materials.

This workshop aims to help residents extend their growing season, improve food production, conserve water, and gain practical skills for building and managing productive backyard greenhouse systems suited to Arizona’s unique climate. The cost to attend is $15 per person. Participants are encouraged to bring a long-sleeve shirt and a cold drink.
