Why We Support Proposition 405

The Graham County Chamber of Commerce strongly supports Proposition 405 and the ratification of the City of Safford’s 2026–2036 General Plan.

The General Plan recognizes that economic development works best when government and the private sector work together. It identifies private businesses, employers, entrepreneurs and community organizations as partners in Safford’s future, and it specifically names the Graham County Chamber of Commerce as one of those partners. We appreciate the City’s collaborative approach and its willingness to look beyond traditional governmental silos, allowing private businesses and community organizations to provide services where partnership makes sense.

The Chamber sees that partnership firsthand. The City contracts with the Chamber for visitor services, SalsaFest and the Safford Spring Festival, allowing community organizations to help deliver services and experiences that support tourism, business and quality of life.

Proposition 405 is about planning intentionally for Safford’s next decade. The General Plan addresses economic growth, infrastructure, housing, transportation, recreation, community character and the other building blocks of a strong community. Its economic-development policies call for strengthening existing businesses, encouraging entrepreneurship, improving infrastructure, attracting employers and expanding partnerships throughout the region.

The Graham County Chamber of Commerce applauds the City of Safford’s efforts to advance quality of life and economic opportunity. We are proud to be a partner in that work, and we strongly support a yes vote on Proposition 405.
